Using Lattice Fence Designs

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Most homeowners don’t spend a lot of time thinking about their fence unless it needs repair or they don’t have one at all. Then, it’s time to look at the various types of fencing and start making some decisions about what kind of fence would work out best and who you want to hire to install it.  Putting a fence in may seem like it would be easy, but you would be shocked at the things that can go wrong.  On top of deciding on a contractor and the kind of fence you want, you might also want to consider the idea of adding visually pleasing extras. For example, lattice fence designs are very versatile and commonly used.

Let’s start by taking a look at where you can use lattice work in your fence design.  One of the most common uses for lattice or basket weave is to disguise less than attractive aspects of your yard.  Many people use lattice to hide the often unsightly area under decks or porches.  You can have a piece made on a hinge if you want to use the space under the porch for storage.  In terms of hiding the unmentionables, lattice is also good for making a container or box for garbage cans or compost heaps.  It just looks nicer than having dirty cans or fruit peels hanging out everywhere.

In most cases, the famous crisscrossed pattern of the lattice fence is made out of wood.  You can have it stained or painted, whatever works best for you and your landscaping needs.  However, your contractor can tell you about some of the other materials currently used in the manufacturing of this product.  Plastic and vinyl, as well as wood composite materials have found their way into the production of lattice.  Depending on your need, you can decide which material is best for you.

However you choose to use your lattice fence designs, you will be happy with the classic look of this traditional fencing in all of its useful applications.
